Justine will be seeded 5th in the round of 32 draw with no bye. She will try to recreate her sleek 2004 performance as title winner, and continue onwards to the Australian Open in Melbourne, the following week. Justine's first round opponent will be Martina Hingis, who is playing her second tournament in an official comeback to the tour for the first time in three years. They will play on Monday January 9, 2005 at about 13:00 hrs- 13:30 hrs as the 2nd match on Center Court. The Medibank International is one of the few combined men's, and women's event on the tennis calender outside of the grand slams. It's the fifth oldest tennis tournament in the world, featuring a gallery of stars past, and present as winners. The tournament is played at the Sydney International Tennis Center since 2000, and site of the Sydney Olympics. There are 15 courts, and one grand center court. This will be Justine's 4th visit to this tournament. Justine is placed in the bottom half of the draw. She has no access to a bye; thus will play WC entry Martina Hingis. The former Swiss number one has made her first official career comeback last week in a Tier III at the Gold Coast of Australia, where she was defeated in the semi-finals. Justine and Martina have played each other twice, but this was back in 2000; five years ago. Martina won both matches, one in the Australian Open 6-3 6-3, and later on that year in Filderstadt when Justine retired the match to injury. If Justine wins her first match of the new season facing Hingis, she will confront the winner of Vera Zvonareva or qualifier. Further in the rounds the seeded players she may have rematches with are Nadia Petrova in the quarterfinals, and Amelia Mauresmo or Svetlana Kuznetsova in a semi-final. The finals could be the top seed Kim Clijsters, Patty Schnyder, or Francesca Schiavone and dangerous young hotshot Nicole Vaidisova.
