A purely athletic reason "I try, and hope to make people understand today why Justine cannot play Fed Cup next year. It's purely an athletic reason. Justine isn't at her best. During the 2004, and 2005 she has not been able to play more than 9 tournaments. In 2006, she'll try to rediscover her health, and tennis." A decision made too soon? "The announcement was made early in respect to everyone involved. It's good to be open about things." Defending Justine, puttings clearly, and advancing for a better furture. "Things have been a little heated, on both sides. I can understand the indignation by people who are involved, including the captain, but it's neccessary to see how enormously unfair Justine has been treated dragged into the mud. I had to put things straight, once and for all. I did not intend to offend, hurt or target players of the team. I wanted to first defend Justine, and her honor, because she has given alot to Belgium. Secondly, I wanted to correct things that are not going well." Hurt by the remarks of people "I'm defending Justine today because she's someone I appreciate. And I'll do so again when she's once more a victim of injustice. I wanted to open the eyes of people, and make them realize that they are in the process of demoralizing someone that does not deserve this. It was sad to hear people say that she denied, and turned her back to her country. There is no one else who is attached to her country, to the national colors more beautifully than she is. Let us now respect choices made, let us accept her as the champion, and respect her as such. I speak because after all she has done, there's still no recognition nor respect!." A greater future for the team "All the things I've said are for Justine to once more play Fed Cup, and that the Belgium team be the greatest one possible. I have strong reactions, but that is the way I am, I care for Justine, and I do not like injustices. But, I love tennis, I love Belgium and I love Fed Cup." Always available to the captain "I never intended to attack Carl Maes personally. I believe the captains are all capable ones, but it's necessary that they know how to take action, and be firm. And it's evident now that I will be behind them. The captain will always have my support, if he does his job, and I will do my mine. I'll be his best ally. When Justine does play Fed Cup, my place will be at home in front of the television, because I will be confident of the captain.
