I think the answer might be the interest---not only interest in English, but also in the plot of the story---that makes you finish a heavy book. Then, it explains the motive of your reading. One would like to chose his/her favorite books to read, when he/she want to know the story, he'll keep flipping the pages enthusiastically. So, after reading Chinese version, why will you want to read them? It's not fresh already, not attract you anymore.
