In Monday's loss, Igawa walked three in 4 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits. He has totaled just 20 2/3 innings in his four starts but has thrown between 92 and 97 pitches each time out. Igawa was a strikeout pitcher in Japan, where he won or shared the Central League strikeouts title three times in his eight seasons. But his stuff -- a 90-mph fastball and looping slider -- does not translate into swings and misses in the AL. "He's at a disadvantage because he doesn't know any of these hitters in the American League," Guidry said. "He's accustomed to pitching to Japanese hitters. He knows what they'll swing at. These guys might not swing at the same stuff. "You've got to be more aware of where you want to put your pitches. You can't just throw pitches over the strike zone.
