LOS ANGELES - It was just another example of the status Kuo.
Hong-Chih Kuo remains "the most consistent guy out of the bullpen other than
(Jonathan Broxton)," Dodgers manager Joe Torre said, and he lived up to that
on Saturday by retiring all five batters he faced in the Dodgers' 9-4 win
over the Yanks.
That was no small feat when those five batters were Derek Jeter, Curtis
Granderson, Mark Teixeira, Alex Rodriguez and Robinson Cano, who were 5 for
13 to that point.
"He's really been lights out," Torre said. "It's not often you're going to
see somebody bring in a left-hander to pitch to Jeter. ...
"I trust him."
Kuo, 2-1 with a 1.16 ERA in 23 games, has yet to give up a hit to a
left-handed batter this season -- they're 0 for 24 -- though he said he
wasn't aware of that stat.
"I don't pay attention, really," Kuo said. "I try to get everybody out."
The Dodgers are promoting Kuo as an all-star candidate, though a middle
reliever has to be considered a long shot.
"I don't worry about that, really," Kuo said. "I just worry about tomorrow
and get ready. It would be great."
