Scouting Report:
Hernandez had his two-start winning streak halted Tuesday night in San Diego as
he suffered a 5-2 loss. The right-hander walked a season-high five on the night
including two that scored in a four-run first inning. Mike Cameron provided the
big blow with a three-run homer on a hanging slider. Hernandez was acquired from
the Nationals in exchange for a pair of Minor League pitchers in early August.
Kuo was working effectively through five innings in just his third Major League
start. After allowing two runs to the Pirates, the left-hander loaded the bases
in the sixth inning and was removed from the contest only to see the next batter
hit a grand slam and tag him with three more runs. Kuo struck out a career-best
eight batters, but fell to 1-1 as a starter.
