The British number one had recently returned to the practice court after suffering with a stiff back during his last event in New York, the US Open. "I'm bitterly disappointed," explained the 31-year-old. "Things were going well and I was really looking forward to getting back on the match court. "I'd eased back into it and I was playing and training hard and then suddenly I suffered an adverse reaction on Tuesday and my back stiffened up completely. "This has happened occasionally in the past and the frustrating thing is that I don't really get any indication when it might happen. "I was all set to travel out to Thailand and I was really looking forward to competing again with a clean bill of health. "Unfortunately, that's not going to be the case now and I don't think it would be very wise for me to travel given the circumstances. "It's tough enough trying to compete at the highest level when fully fit and it's almost impossible to do so when impaired. "I've just got to be patient and try and regain my fitness over here before venturing out onto the match court again. "Obviously, it's tough to say at this stage when that will be, but I haven't pulled out of Tokyo and I'd love to get out there to play if I can." 參賽與否視情況而定 -- All come crashing down, your desperate icon.
