OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA (TICKER) —Monta Ellis’ comeback from ankle surgery has been put on hold. The Golden State Warriors announced Sunday that Ellis, who missed the first 43 games this season, will need at least one week to rest his surgically repaired left ankle. Ellis, who was suspended the first 30 games for violating the terms of his contract, has recovered from a torn ligament in his left ankle he suffered in a moped accident over the summer. The 6-3 Ellis has appeared in 13 games since returning to the Warriors last month, averaging 13.4 points and 2.8 assists. Although he has not been visibly affected by the injury, Ellis’ numbers have dropped dramatically since last season, when he averaged a career-high 20.2 points. Ellis signed a six-year, $66 million extension last offseason. The Warriors determined he violated his contract when he lied about how he sustained the injury. The 22-year-old Ellis initially told the Warriors that the injury happened during a pickup basketball game.
