However, it is difficult to discern exactly what it might mean, given that absolutely everything in the book is cloaked in darkness. Africa, England, and Brussels are all described as gloomy and somehow dark, even if the sun is shining brightly. Darkness thus seems to operate metaphorically and existentially rather than specifically. Darkness is the inability to see: this may sound simple, but as a description of the human condition it has profound implications. Failing to see another human being means failing to understand that individual and failing to establish any sort of sympathetic communion with him or her. 個人是覺得 作者想要藉由非洲內地 叢林遍佈 蠻荒遍野的夜晚(大部分時間都是晚上為止) 再加上Kurtz尋找心靈上意義的存在 對比出歐洲社會往外地尋找奴隸來源 並以物質享受的生活為主的空虛 當然 還有為殖民地所打的戰爭 講的有點亂 但大致上就是兩者的對比 --
