來源:http://magazine.privy.net/go/people/Brian-Joo Unveiled: Privy Interviews Musician Brian Joo Post by Privy EditorMay. 31, 2011 While most high school kids are worried about who they're going to take to prom this time of year, Brian Joo was busy forging a career as a music superstar in Korea when he was still in high school. Although originally accepted to Rutgers University, Brian decided to take his talents to South Korea and the rest is history. Originally one half of the hugely successful "Fly to the Sky" music duo, Brian eventually wanted to spread his wings as a muscian and performer and decided to launch a solo career. Since then, he's built an impressive following with a stong debut album entitled "The Brian." Since then, Brian has had incredible international success with his newest EP album "Unveiled" which recently released on May 17th and immediately received the #8 spot in iTunes Canada, and #19 for iTunes US R&B/Soul charts We sat down with Brian to discuss his new album "Unveiled" as well as talk about his career, a possible future in acting, and much, much more. 1. How did you make the transition from college student at Rutgers to full-time music artist in Korea? Actually, to set the record straight, I never went to college. A lot of people have made up stories of seeing me on campus and hanging out with me, but the truth is that I got accepted to Rutgers, even went to the orientation, but I never had the time to go to college because my label at that time, wanted me in Korea as soon as possible to prepare our album. This was back in ‘99. So basically, the only transition for me was from High School student to a Korean musician. 2. What was your motivation for branching off Fly to the Sky and into a solo career? I wouldn't say I was motivated, but it was just something I really wanted to do for a while, even from the start of my Fly to the Sky days. As an artist, I really wanted to show people what I was really about. But when you’ re in a group, it's all compromise and you can only show 50% of what you want. Don't get me wrong, I love being in a group but, I love doing the solo thing as well. 3. As someone who spends a lot of time in Korea, what are some of your favorite restaurants in Seoul? Oh gosh, I hate these type of questions cause I don't like recommending things to people and then find out later on that their experience was hell (laughs). But if I have to mention a few places, for some good Brazilian steaks, I'd say my favorite place is Mercados in ChungDam, Seoul. Also, for great dry aged steaks, The Barn in ChungDam is a very delicious spot and if you're like me, and love New York or New Jersey style pizza above all pizzas, I would recommend Crow's Nest Pizza. It's probably the closest you can get to the real thing in Korea, and that's located in Itaewon. 4. How influential is your faith as part of being an artist in Korea? I'd say it's pretty influential. As an artist and a celebrity figure in South Korea, one of the main things I make sure to do, is to spread the love of God to my supporters. I always let my fans know that I am grateful to be doing what I do and it's ALL because of God. Seriously, I let everyone know that and I honestly believe it too. It's up to you to believe what I say it true or not, but I would be no where without my faith. 5. Can you talk about your new album “Unveiled”? Well, this EP is an album that me and my producer felt was something we needed to do musically for my fans and for those who still don't know about me. I kept it pretty simple with the style of songs and made it a bit more easy listening then my last solo album, cause my producer felt that this was what my followers wanted me to do this time around. I honestly wanted to do more upbeat songs, but when you work with labels you kind of have to compromise sometimes and trust everyone you're working with. 6. You’re having amazing success in the U.S. and Canadian markets, especially on iTunes, what do you think is the key(s) behind your international success? Well first off, thank you for the nice compliment. I believe it's my personal relationship that I have with the fans and other celebrity friends of mine. So many people helped with promoting my album internationally, even more so than my own label, only because my label didn't know where to start when it comes to the US & Canadian market. Also, with the Internet being so advanced, it's so much easier for people all over the get a hold of Korean music and dramas, and since it's new to a lot of people, I guess that's what draws in fans. I pretty much use Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, and my YouTube channel to keep my fans up to date on what I'm doing and tell let everyone know about when I'll be releasing a new album and such. Basically, social media is the key. 7. Not only are you a singer, but you’ve also done quite a bit of acting as well. Do you see a future in acting? Acting is one thing I really want to get into. Honestly, back in High School I wanted to be an actor more than a singer, singing was something I always loved doing, but the feeling of being onstage and acting in front of a live audience was so surreal to me and I knew that that was what I really wanted, but when I was given the opportunity to become a singer, I assumed that acting would naturally be apart of the deal so I went with it. So for any casting directors and filmmakers who are looking for another Asian/American actor in any country, please keep Brian Joo in mind! 8. What do you like about Privy or the promise it offers? Well, from my experiences of using it, I found it to be helpful when I travel and need advise on travel plans, what sights to see, where the best places to eat are, so I guess those things helped out a lot for me. --
