The win hoists the Leoes up to second place with nine points; only Jesualdo Ferreira's FC Porto bettering the Lisbon Lions with 100% success so far. After last weekend's unlucky defeat by Pacos de Ferreira at their Alvalade home – Ronny admitted that he'd handballed the only goal of the game - Paulo Bento's men made a good start to their preparations for the away game against Spartak Moscow in Wednesday's Champions League action. Sporting crushed Aves back into their own half fro the start and were rewarded with an early goal as Alecsandro (14 min) scored his debut goal in European football after a precise Joao Moutinho cross found the ex-Cruzeiro striker. Aves almost got the equaliser as Fredy power-headed a cross off Ricardo's post on the half hour. The visitors caused a few more heart chafed nerves on the Sporting bench as Ricardo came out badly and Hernani would have scored if it hadn't been for an alert Anderson Polga. Paulo Bento went for safety first by bringing on a defender – Tonel – for a striker – Yannick.
