Brazilian rising star Anderson was the catalyst – despite the Coach unsuccessfully saying that the team isn't dependent on the young gun – that led to a revolution in the remaining 45 minutes as the player had sat the first half out. Jorginho tried to supplant Anderson in the first half, but the ex-Gremio number 10 is a hard act to follow. The Dragoes looked like they were wading in mud as play was slow, uninspired and far too central: two dodgy offside calls were the closest that Porto made it to the rival goal. Beira-Mar could even have snatched a surprise lead through Ratinho, but Helton showed just why Dunga has called him up with a stunning save. Jesualdo Ferreira made the necessary alterations in the break: Lisandro and Anderson on, Helder Postiga pushed forward, Lucho off to the left and Quaresma out wide right. Anderson lit the way with a blazing display of dribbles, passes and constant snappy moves that rewarded the long-suffering fans with a Helder Postiga (53 min) goal. This effectively ended Beira-Mar hopes of what would have been the shock of the round. Paraguayan defender Alcaraz showed the visitors nerves with a mistake that allowed Lisandro (71 min) to wallop in the second, adding to his –and his team's – woes by seeing red the next minute.
