Shinya Nakano was lucky to avoid serious injury when he was sent cart-wheeling from his Kawasaki after suffering a rear tyre failure at over 200mph on the thirteenth lap of the Gran Premio Cinzano d'Italia on Sunday. The Japanese rider spiralled into a trackside barrier after his Bridgestone tyre exploded but, after treatment at the medical centre, it was confirmed that he was only suffering from contusions, a bruised left shoulder, a bruised wrist and an injured finger on his right hand. “It was a very hard crash but I feel fine,” commented Nakano, whose parents had flown in specially from Japan to watch the race. “I don’t know if I was really unlucky or really lucky!
