According to reports this morning published in El Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola has launched a last-minute bid to convince defensive midfielder and Ivory Coast international Yaya Toure (27) to stay with the club next season. Toure has been widely reported to have been on the verge of signing a contract with Manchester City where he would be reunited with his brother Kolo. But according to El Mundo Deportivo, the deal with City has not been finalized, and their official bid expired on Monday. This set the stage for Guardiola, and new president Sandro Rosell, to make one final effort to retain the player. For his part, Guardiola apparently considers Toure as an integral member of the squad, and desperately wants him to stay in Barcelona. The sticking point is that Guardiola is unable to give Toure the absolute guarantee he wants on a place in the starting 11, but he is hopeful of being able to convince the Ivorian that he is set to retain an important place in the team for the coming campaign.
