Alves: 6.5 – Very good going forward and played a brilliant pass for the first goal but at the back looked hapless and was beaten way too many times by Sesma. Exciting performance from the Brazilian in the attacking sense but it should not be forgotten he is a defender. Márquez: 7.5 – Solid game from the Mexican who put in some key tackles and was a rock at the back for Barça all match. Piqué: 6.5 – Nothing wrong with his performance and saw off the threats of Valladolid well in a disciplined display. Puyol: 8 – Fantastic game from Puyol who, were it not for the sheer wealth of attacking talent on show, would have been the best player on the pitch. Made some great tackles and also got forward a lot, solid and assured display from the captain. Touré: 7 – Not bad from the midfielder and even though he was overshadowed by the creative talents such as Messi and Eto’o he did play a good game. Xavi: 7 – Much like Touré he was overshadowed by Messi but didn’t do anything wrong and played some key passes in the build up to a few of the goals. Went close with a shot too and looked very composed all night long. Gudjohnsen: 7.5– Lively performance from the Icelandic international who used this rare start to show Guardiola and the fans that he can play with the best. Fully deserved his goal for an enthusiastic and committed display. Messi: 8.5 – Hasn’t been at his best this season but tonight he was unstoppable and played some absolutely delightful through-balls for the goals. Kept the ball wonderfully, passed it brilliantly and was a joy to watch all night long, unlucky not to get a goal for a superb performance. Henry: 7.5 – Looked lively on the wing but too many times wasted the opportunity when he was in a good position and should really have scored more than just the one goal. Eto’o: 9.5 – Scored four goals in just forty-five minutes and is fast becoming the Samuel Eto’o of old again. Absolutely brilliant performance from a striker who feeds on confidence and whilst none of his finishes were particularly tough he was always in the right place at the right time and the star player on the night, fully deserved his standing ovation. SUBS Cáceres: 6 – Came on when the game was won and didn’t influence it all. Keita: 6.5 – Showed what he adds to the midfield with some attacking runs and very nearly got on the score sheet but shot just wide late on.
