How many crushed bones to build a stadium? How many ashes for the tracks? How much blood to fill the winners』 cups? How much silence to ease one』s conscience? The Beijing Olympic Games has already won the Gold Medal for Hypocrisy. Hiding behind the splendid facade is the hideous monster of totalitarianism. This system only serves those who serve it. The others, it crushes and dismembers, scattering the bits over the planet for money. In Beijing, athletes are going to beat records, but dignity will be buried. For each body propelling itself into the air or into the water, another will be emptied of its substance in the shadow of the camps. And the world will applaud, will admire China with sugared candy to be offered to it during the great sports ceremony. It will convince itself that, thanks to sport, it has helped humanity to advance in the Middle Kingdom. In truth, it will have lent support to a system which, strengthened by this global recognition and sure of its impunity, will continue to flout human rights with ever more energy.
