I keep refuting your ideas. It seems that you and I are have very different perspectives on various things. I don't think it's appropriate to compare a Traditional Culture to a Current Culture unless you're analyzing a single culture. I mean...when you really think about it, traditional cultures are actually quite oppressive. It's written down in history and so we look at it instead of experience it, when in truth the Culture is ideal. There are both good and bad things to cultures of different times. Although I also have a long list of complaints against American Culture, I will say this in defense of their short history: It is precisely because of the "lack of depth" in American Culture that they were able to come up with those ideas you so adore. Change comes much more easily because they don't have any deep-rooted culture. And Underworld Economy (stuff like selling drugs and selling stolen organs etc). I don't think people are fearful to admit or accept what's really "right" and what's really "wrong". If you want to refer to the mass who are blindly accepting what others tell them, I don't think they're afraid of thinking but they just aren't smart enough to think about it. Maybe some do feel guilt, but you can never determine what every human thinks. If there is even one who disagrees, the term "universal" would thus be rendered false and inconsistent. There are so many people in the world, one can never be sure. This is because we humans will never fully understand one another. We don't read minds. Justification. Is it out of rejection and fear or is it out of one's true feelings? How will we ever know? After all, the existence of people who came up with genius ideas like genocide and other things that the vast majority views as "wrong" already nullifies the term "humans share universal values". Yeah... They CAME UP with those ideas. I hardly doubt they're afraid to accept that they are "wrong". But of course, since I am not them either, I will never know the truth. Of course, it's not like I'm against having one's own set of personal values. It makes living slightly more tolerant. Most people want to believe that there is a set of universal values as well, I assure you. But I think it's because they don't want to imagine a world where morality does not exist, they won't ever be able to trust others, and living fearful everyday is just pretty tiresome, if you think about it.
