I had a furious debate with my ex-bf yesterday about Einstein. I think Einstein is absolutely a humble person, but my ex said he is proud. He also thinks only smart and snobbish people can win Nobel Price. He thinks Scientists should be proud and have mental deficit disorder. I opposed to him because he has a wrong interpretation about what Einstein said. Here is the quote me and my ex talked about: "Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe." — Albert Einstein My ex talked in joy that most humans are absolutely stupid. He thinks that Einstein means that most humans are stupid, and himself superior. He thinks only crazy person and someone who look down on others can be selfish enough to get rid of unnecessary stupid interventions and pursue their private goal. He insists that Einstein is smart and proud. My interpretation to this quote is that Einstein thinks himself stupid too, even he is the smartest among the human species ever on earth maybe. This means we human stupidity is only comparative. We should learn from this quote that being humble is very important. After our debate, my ex insists his thought and think I am stupid. To me, A Genius is absolutely humble, and will never think of himself as a genius. A Genius is someone who follows his/her Passion, and devote their time/effort to something they think is worth to pursue. It is Passion that matters, not outward rewards, such as power, status, price, to serve as your motivation. For if that is your motivation, you will finally lose your ability in the long term. Those are so-called vanity. I learned this in a very hard way during my adolescence years. Honestly, I dislike this kind of snobbish thought.(my ex) It is not spiritual or touching the intrinsic and universal truth of humanity. Even he is intellectually superior, and I am disorganized/lazy due to past childhood/medical issues, so what? I don't want to spare a dine to care about those superficial issues such as academic degree, social status etc... That is only for someone who does not know you enough to see and judge. I personally think this kind of irreconcilable thoughts and conflicts of value systems will lead us into a disaster if we keep dating. He can find a cute doll who has no independent thoughts and follows whatever he says, but I don't want to disguise myself to please him. Over. I am so painful to fall in love with someone who does not click with me. I don't know why this weirdo has this kind of dangerous thoughts often. Although he is a very nice, sincere and smart guy, still, I feel lacking some spiritual connection with him. Maybe we are not soulmates. I am very tired of his evil thoughts now, although he is smart. (sorry if it's offensive to call him weirdo) --
