Yet it could be an arduous task for the poor people to rise from poverty to affluence because they, unlike the rich ones, do not possess adequate amount of capital to attract more money through investment. On the contrary, there are very limited means for the poor to become richer, not to mention rising from poverty to affluence. Some of them may be prone to buying lottery ticket constantly, some may be driven to commit criminal act, while some may consider education a tool to get rid of poverty. However, the chance of winning the lottery money is, purportedly, less than the possibility of being hit by lightning bolt three times, and criminal act is undoubtedly the least advisable way to gain fortune. As for education, it might be a key to success, but it is not the only one. Besides, not everyone affords the educational cost. Therefore, from my perspective, not everyone has the power to rise from poverty to affluence. Nevertheless, I do believe that those possess some kind of talent could be able to make a fortune someday. One may not be convinced before seeing some examples below. That is why you will see an example below, concerning those who had been rising to affluence with the lubrication of his or her own talent. And before conclusion, you will see some examples that prove education can hardly help the poor to embrace wealthy life. Many talented people rise from poverty to affluence. For example, a Taiwanese female singer named Chang Hui-mei and nicknamed as A-mei. A-mei was born into a poverty-stricken family with eight siblings. Since it was never easy to raise a child, not to mention raising nine, A-mei’s father once considered sending A-mei as well as some of her sisters to other relatives. Luckily she was saved by her mother. Such miserable plot was quite just a tip of the ice berg in A-mei’s life. At that time being, A-mei could by no means figure out a way to flee poverty, not even education since the budget was too limited. At least not until 1992 when she decided to attend a televised singing contest did she meet her turning point of life. There she drew everyone’s attention with her vocal talent, which is second to none. Four years afterward, A-mei was contracted with Forward Music Corporation and sung a duet with another well-known Mandarin pop singer, Chang Yu-sheng. It was then when Chang Yu-sheng, as well as all the Chinese at home and abroad noticed A-mei’s unparalleled singing talent. On December thirteenth, 1996, A-mei released her first album, Sisters. And afterward came thirteen other successful, lucrative releases. As a result, now A-mei no longer needs to lead an impoverished life. Instead, she lives with enormous fortune, all because she has a great talent that general people do not. So, what if a normal poverty-stricken person who has no talent at all receives great education? Some fellow Taiwanese must have heard or read about a story regarding a beggar studying hard and afterward elected as one of the ten outstanding youngsters of the year. The main character of the story was Lai Dong-jin, who was born into a family as poor as church mouse. He and his father had to beg for food and money to live and to support their fourteen-membered family. As a child, Lai Dong-jin thought of education as an access to affluence, so he managed to perform well in his studies and made it all the way to high school. Now, although Lai Dong-jin might have been living a better life comparing his earlier life, he is not leading a so-called affluent life. What’s more, as far as I know, Lai Dong-jin was ended up unemployed due to some personal conflicts with his boss. In short, mere education is not likely to magically transform the fate of a financially frustrated person who possesses no talent in the least. With the stories shown above, we may learn how powerful a talent could be when helping a penniless person want to be rich and how feeble education could be when it comes to helping a person become wealthy. These stories together imply the same fact that an educated person is not as likely as a talented person is to become affluent. Therefore, I do not agree with the idea that education is the single most powerful tool for the poor to rise from poverty to affluence. --
