Is it fun doing so? So it seems you didn't think about the reason, or the strategy for people making their decision. Except for making some kind of joke, since there's a common sense that everyone is supposed to "act for their own cause," it's very likely that books intentionally misplaced is to "monopolize" limited resources.The book is the potential treasure of endowment with knowledge, and knowledge is power. Especially the book on the hot list which many people compete for checking out registering, hide something somewhere only oneself knows will ensure one's exclusive access. However this kind of behavior is too much of an insult and threat to established system. Imagine the worst kind of scenario--all books scattered without orderness--then what is a library for excepting a place strewn with lots of books? (Now it's not that difficult to realize this kind of selfish act is based on the knowing that "only I am that smart to do that", his or her interest is on the condition that other members firmly obey the law while only he or her disobey) -- In sharp contrast with the above-mentioned, the action of my voluntary returning books to designated original position, though also out of self- interest-orientedness, does not carry the risk of subverting existent mechanism (It may even altruistically create benefit). That is a win-win situation. It just takes me some extra minutes to put back in place, properly, and the next day I can still find it where it should belong instead of waiting several days if having left on the cart. I admit that is luckily because of the fact that the books I often read in the library happen to be those that other members comparatively rarely are tantalized or anxious about (mostly I read in English while others read in Chinese despite I strongly believe the books in English more likely endow one with the most critical knowledgeable information) So what if my coveted books were on the hot loan list? I guess I would resort to printing, in addition to the option of borrowing out. : For many times, students and faculties came to the counter, saying that : they could not find a book. I would always ask if they had looked around : in other shelves. If they said yes, I could not refuse to help. (If they : said no, I still had to help...) Under this condition, I would give them : a form of "Book Finding Assistance," and it is the part-time students' job : to find the request book(s). The errands always belong to the PT students. : The librarians deal with much bigger matters....(perhaps I can term it so) : If I found the requested book(s), I would be very happy. : If not, I would curse the person who misplaced it/them (in mind...= =) : I always can't understand how hard it is to put back well/neatly the book : you randomly browse. There are some sections which are really "infernos" : for PT students when when we are shelving, especially the sections of books : of computer, novels, and English learnings. After we arrnage those carelessly : placed books, it turns to "inferno" in an unimaginable speed.....Orz : === : Apart from that, I also dislike those who bring foods and drinks into the : library. I think it is a common sense that foods and drinks are not allowed : in the library...Orz : === : Even so, I still love working at the library. =__=" : Kind of self-abuse...
