In fact, when I first responded to your post, that was the first time I dabbled myself to this board, and your post was the first thing that caught my eyes. XD While I still have to "correct" you since I've never watched the documentary that you've mentioned, knowing something about the hottest bands in the rock'n'roll history is one basic instinct for someone who's interested in listening to them, isn't it? As you said, it's a very good introduction to Britpop, and also to Britain for the past decade, I could almost smell it through the film, thanks for recommending them to me. Simply by checking out ur list, I couldn't tell that you were also into the bands that I've mentioned. And you don't have to put your opinion humbly , cos I'm totally with you on that, and I also apreciated their works as art pieces since most of them came out authentic. Sigur Ros dissolves people in the night while Mogwai mildly explodes them, Pulp is your best pal when you want to scoff the world and Radiohead stirs you idealized and ruins you at the same time, going delirious is your only destination and you'll enjoy the flight. Four Tet is not really as impressive as the above but his electronic works were comfortingly artistic and smart. ECM was surely about the German lable, and it releases timeless albums, which are always bluring up the bundaries of world music, jazz, classic music and sometimes new age. Here is a personal equation: (rock music) : postrock = (mentioned above) : ECM works The same thing about postrock and ECM works is they're both exploring the posibility of musical expression. While ECM works covers a wider context of culture and seriously selected quailties, only few postrockers have done good jobs. You might have never heard about this lable but familiar with their representative rhythms if you go to Eslite Bourgeois Bookstore often. Despite those commerical products, most of them were very thick in emotion, and the classics in this genre varies in styles. Miles Davis & John Coltrane were smoky but odorous like drinking whisky straight, vocals such as Bebel Gilberto & Billie Holiday were intoxicant like mixing black coffee with brandy, and pianoists like Bill Evans were just fragile beautiful. The softer side of them serve well as back ground music, and it's doubtless that they were capable to lure you fallen asleep. :p Most of the opinions were merely personal, don't take them too serious.
