Penelope slammed the door and locked herself inside the room. "Shameless! Shameless indecent jerk!" she yelled, as tears flooded out. On the last day of 2005, her world was officially torn apart. Outside was a total silence. Yes, Penelope was home, alone. Suddenly she laughed, for her hysteria. Since she was the only one at home, who in the world was supposed to find out her rage? So Penelope wiped her face, her enormous eyes widened as a sudden impulse seized her. She discovered underneath the bed and felt a wooden box. Opening it, she spotted what she was looking for in a second. A teddy bear, a dust-laden teddy bear. A teddy bear a summer lover presented her as a token. A love token, he meant to say. Penelope could vividly recall the moment, the very moment he handed over this fluffy little fellow into her hands. His smile, his half-concealed shyness. And she formed a smile, too, unknowingly. How very naive they were. The previous moment she wanted to curse the whole world, a second later she was engrossed into such nostalgia. Penelope stroked the teddy bear, feeling the embroiderd silver threads with her fingers. And that was the time she found that note. "To my summer love babe,(though I believe in forever) I know things might not work out for us, since we will be states apart after this recounter. Forever or not, I'll come to find you before the end of this century. Do not hesitate, when you hear the doorbell ring. Love, Orlie." Penelope sat still in astonishment. She never knew about this note, never. But, then, her heart froze. The end of the century? Not that it was already the end of year 2005. You are a terrible promise keeper, Orlie. She murmured. You have always been. She sanked into the bed out of disappointment, drowning in her tears. If only she had never found out that note. And then the doorbell rang. She sat up abrupty, her tears still shining. Who on earth can that be? Could it be that shamelss, indecent jerk, carrying a bundle of flowers and telling her how very sorry he is, or could it be... Orlie, five years late? She stumbled downstairs, opened the door with her hands slightly shaking. A tall, gallant young man was gazing at her with an enchanting smile. "Yes, madam. I believe you have left your purse in our coffee shop." "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" she shrieked. She slammed the door, leaving the attractive young man outside, perplexed.
