Sometimes it hurts more, for someone you love to suffer some misfortune, than if you suffered it yourself. If it happens to you, you suffer the impact directly, and you are right in the middle of whatever it is. However, if someone you love suffers, you can feel very powerless. You are not suffering directly, but sometimes it's worse. Not only do you feel bad on their behalf, you feel like you want to do something, all that you can, to make the situation somehow better. You can offer help, you can sympathize, you can do everything that you can possibly think of, still, it's not the same, and it just never seems enough.
