champion v.s. runner-up This morning, it was clear and hot, and our school held the final basketball game for the graduates-to-be in the court. The last two teams were both taught by me, and I had no favor for either of them. There was a diffence between these two teams in height and strength. One of the final teams, from class 2, were averagely much shorter then the another, from class 13, who were either stronger or taller. At the beginning of the game, class 2 lead the game becasue of their three-point shots and great team spirit which their classmates cheered for them frequently. On the other hand, class 13 didn't get the luck to shoot and fell befind them at least for ten points. However, as the time past, maybe for the reason that class 2 worked out, so class 13 gradually caught up with them and almost tied the game. What a competeing game it was! Every kid held his or her breath staring at the keen competition with great attention. And I was no exception. At the last few minutes, Darren, from class 13 caught the ball and got the last two points to achieve the ultimate goal, every student form their class cheered up and hurrayed which disappeared the disappointment persisted all the game. Soon, right after the happiest seconds, the jugde suddenly called out the player violating the rule for stepping over the line, thus, the vital two point didn't count. The intense game really got everyone nervous. At last, the winner was the shorter team that the shortest player got a three-point shot and finished the competition. What I found the most worth notcing didn't lie in the success or the intense atmosphere which gave everybody a great impression. I concerned more about how the advisor of the losing team instructed them to treat the failure. It was obvious that winners were happier then losers. Some kids of the losing class even cried for the last game at school. How did the advisor comfort his devastated students? How did he treat his own feelings for his students lost the game becasue he told me privately his class always succeeded for basketball game before? How did the advisor teach his students to aceept defeat and even further to appreciate the defeat? In my view, it is failure, instead of success, teach we human beings more profoundly . When we succeed, we get definitely elated for it and embrace the laurels all day long. Nevertheless, as we lose, we get disappointed or upset even more then a day or a week(it depends on how important the game is) Facing the defeat calls for not only courage but also a postive thinking, which I consider is one of the indispensible elements to become a wise person. So many people losing no matter in which aspects of life hold the idea that they are not that lucky or smart and become a cynic finally. No doubt, they complain and get jealous of other people's achievements. Success doesn't gurantee permanent happiness. However, the optimistic attitude leads us to face problems in a bright way and get wiser at last. Lead our life wisely, we should learn how to own positive thinking. Next time, if I encounter the advisor, I'd like to ask how he treat his students? -- We should not be afraid to love, but be careful for love.... --
