FRAN SUES DEPORTIVO Thursday 14th July, 2005 -- The confrontation between former captain Fran and president Lendoiro returned to the headlines this Thursday. The player’s lawyers affirm that the club doesn't want to pay him for the cancellation of his contract during the 2004/05 season, but Deportivo has denied the accusation. Yesterday, it was revealed that Fran's lawyers presented a formal accusation against Deportivo in the court of the Spanish federation. Apparently their position is that the Galician player’s contract is without any guarantee and that it will expire on October 30th. In order to secure the payment in which the deal is cancelled, the lawyers have asked the club for a bank document in which recognition of the debt is clarified and accepted, but according to them Depor refused to do it. Now, Fran lawyers want to demonstrate that the debt is real and that this issue isn't a capricious idea of the former captain. In the case of not reaching an agreement, Fran’s legal proceedings could cause Deportivo to descend into the Segunda. However, the player’s lawyers say that they don't want to reach this scenario. As a response, canaldeportivo.com published an article with the club’s point of view. In this article the club states that Fran's claim is false because they already recognized the existence of the debt. Club officials argue that this liquidation has been made every year without needing a bank document as a guarantee of the debt. The same article expresses the disappointment of the club since confidence in the Galician player seems to be disappearing. It seems that Fran doesn’t trust the club anymore and that's why he's reclaiming a legal document in order to secure his final payment. Curiously, the Canaldeportivo article states that one of the main issues of the debt is a special bonus that Deportivo wanted to pay Fran for his loyalty to the club for the past 17 years. This isn't the first time Fran has brought forward this accusation. Last season the Galician player presented the same demand resulting in the end of his relationship with Lendoiro.
