TRISTAN WORSENS Saturday 30th April, 2005 -- Striker Diego Tristan worsens from his injury and will surely miss what is left of the season. Now Deportivo have to face the remaining games without the only pure striker they had. Tristan was injured in the game against Villarreal on the 10th of April, and at first it seemed to be a minor injury. Indeed, coach Irureta even stated that Tristan would only miss once game. But the striker is not improving, quite the contrary. The Andalusian actually requested to be treated in his homeland by a well-known doctor, and the club agreed. Press criticised this move and since then Tristan is annoyed with the media. On Thursday Deportivo doctors confirmed that Tristan’s injury was far from improving. According to Dr Cobian a small section of a muscle has separated from the tendon thus provoking a small internal haemorrhage. Dr Cobian says that “it’s serious, and we’ll have pay close attention to that nasty injury. The problem wasn’t properly tackled since the beginning, and has worsened. Nevertheless, it has nothing to do with his trip to Andalusia”. As a result, only a miracle could make Tristan play any of the remaining games, completing one of his worst years since he joined Depor. This whole issue is giving coach Irureta another headache: With the injury of his sole striker, he could relocate Luque from the left wing to the upfront position, thus playing Munitis or Fran in the left. However, Luque has four yellow cards, and if he picks up a fifth one Depor will be left with no strikers at all for one game. Irureta will then be forced to – inevitably – use players from the youth team. --
