DEPOR: SIXTH IN THE UEFA RANKING Deportivo will be - if they qualify for the last stages of the Champions League - a seeded team. And this would happen for two consecutive years. This is due to the fact that Depor is now the sixth team in the UEFA rankings; in other words, the sixth best team in Europe. In the last campaign Deportivo was in the ninth position, because both FC Barcelona and Valencia were also in the competition. However, those historic teams were eventually eliminated, and since Depor reached the semi-finals the Galicians progressed in the ranking dramatically. Current champions Porto are seeded by their own right, and the other seeded teams this season are Real Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, and Arsenal. In short, none of these teams (including Depor, of course) will face each other in the group stage of the 2004/05 Champions League.
