Irureta admitted that he was worried about Tristan's recent performances, and asks him for more intensity, concentration and team-work. Irureta stated: "Tristan has to work harder." Nevertheless, the coach realises that Tristan did not play for two months and it is now difficult for him to get into the proper rhythm. "You can't get fit in fifteen days", said the Basque. Although Irureta talked with strong determination and appeared very serious in the beginning, he ended up speaking in a softer manner. He also admitted that Tristan "must be Depor’s top-scorer", and in doing so the coach said that all the team must help him. "We'll 'oblige' him to recover his form", he said, "but he has to work harder himself." Nevertheless, this situation derives from a background problem: Makaay’s transfer to Bayern Munich. Deportivo has lost with Makaay the European Golden Boot, a player able to score 29 goals in a single season. This way, everybody is now focused on Tristan as the natural substitute of Makaay. Many see in this issue an extra pressure factor for Tristan, who could already been suffering unexpected stress. To date, Tristan is not backing with facts his bold statement from two months ago: “Either Makaay or myself.” Tristan will probably be left alone with the scoring responsibility, as Irureta envisages striker Luque playing on the left. If Tristan does not score, Luque would become the main striker, and this would definitely alter the coach's plans.
