In 1993 the team had a journey of about 10 hours to get back to La Coruna, and this year is wasn't different. But added to this was that the players of Deportivo were very unsatisfied with how things went, as it took them 11,5 hours (including a bus trip) to get back It was 04h45 in the morning when the plane back from Norway landed in Salamanca , as I was impossible because of weather conditions to take the plane down at the airfield in Santiago de Compostela (the original destination of the trip). The plane carried the expedition of Deportivo, as well as several journalists and supporters. But why Salamanca and not Madrid, as from there it's quit easy to take a plane to Galicia? The pilot of the airplane explained the reason: "we didn't have sufficient fuel to reach Barajas (Madrid) with guarantees". But the airport of Salamanca is only 160 kilometres away, not much time for an airplane to fly. Other airports as the ones in Vigo and Asturias were closed while in Porto their wasn't sufficient personnel to handle the incoming plane. The flying company has denied this statement and instead mentioned that the reason was that it would be difficult to find empty spots in planes leaving Madrid because of a festivity. The company denied that the plane lacked fuelled and stressed that Salamanca was the closest airport available. But a group of players still preferred to go to Madrid after having landed in Salamanca and wanted to take taxi's, to rest in the capital and to take a plane the next day to Galicia. However, coach Irureta had decided together with several boardmembers (Pachi Dopico, Luis Sanchez Doporto and Manuel Montiel) to take the bus to La Coruna; a trip of 450 kilometers. That's why two buses were waiting at the airport: one for the expedition of Deportivo and one for the rest of the passengers. Then was the moment when eighth players rebelled. Irureta had to climb out the bus to get them into it: "Sergio! Molina! Diego! Come on, into the bus!". "It's not true, it's not true", Molina replied. He was together with Sergio, Mauro Silva, Lionel Scaloni, Duscher, Naybet, Tristan and Capdevila. The Catalan winger was, together with Molina, one of the first to get back into the bus. Tristan asked Capdevila: "where are you going Johnny?" But Capdevila got back into the bus, as did Molina and Sergio. However, the tension wasn't over as Tristan asked Mauro Silva to talk to Irureta. The Brazilian captain commented that "there are people here who don't do anything and we're tired". Then most of the players entered the bus again. Only one was still missing, and Irureta climbed out of the bus again. "I won't enter", Naybet said to the coach. Irureta answered him: "Well, then you'll stay here". The defender walked some metres away from the bus and obviously was waiting for others to follow. But as he noticed that the bus would leave without him, he turned back with a smile and entered the bus. It was 05h15 in the morning and eventually the bus reached La Coruna around 11h00. The training session of that day was suspended. President Lendoiro of Deportivo commented that he doesn't understand why the players were so angry.
