LIGA REVIEW: DEPORTIVO EFFECTIVE AT VALLADOLID (0-1) http://www.deportivo-la-coruna.com/ 16th February 2003 -- Deportivo took three valuable points on Saturday to keep dreaming of the Liga title as Roy Makaay scored the only goal of the match. The Dutch striker was deadly again after 58 minutes and with it he scored his 16th Liga goal of the season. But it was Valladolid who dominated the match from the start, as the home team were more dangerous in the first half. Deportivo for their part tried it the way they beat Betis 0-2 two weeks ago, and again the formula worked as Valladolid could not achieve much against the serious Galician defence. Only Colsa was dangerous in the sixth minute as his shot hit the post while Aganzo saw his header miss the goal after 24 minutes. Deportivo did not show much in attack either and only a shot of Sergio ten minutes before the break was really dangerous. In the second half the match became more spectacular as Deportivo had more success with their attacks while Valladolid had to do something after they fell behind. Roy Makaay was alert enough when Romero crossed from the left wing and Bizarri was surprised by the fantastic touch of the Dutchman. Only some minutes later Luque struck the bar with an incredible free kick although Naybet saved the team as he cleared a ball from the line after 76 minutes. As Valladolid were incapable of threatening Deportivo much more the three points were secured and the team can keep dreaming of the Liga title. Real Sociedad are now at five points and they have the difficult away match at Betis to play. Real Madrid are now at three points and they have to travel to Osasuna while Valencia won 2-0 against Malaga last night and keep their distance of three points with Deportivo.
