Gibson back in Detroit as opposing manager
DETROIT (AP)—Arizona Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson is back in Detroit
this weekend to face his former team.
Gibson helped the Tigers win the 1984 World Series as a player and is
returning for what promises to be an emotional weekend for him and Arizona
bench coach Alan Trammell, another former Tiger. Detroit is retiring former
manager Sparky Anderson’s number before Sunday’s game, and Anderson had a
big influence on both Gibson and Trammell.
亞利桑那響尾蛇經理Kirk Gibson本週末會回到底特律面對他的老東家。
Gibson 還是球員時曾幫助過老虎贏得1984年的世界大賽，本週末回到這
裡對他以及板凳教練Alan Trammell(另外一個前虎隊球員)而言，應該會
讓他們很感傷。因為老虎隊在周日賽前將會把前教頭Sparky Anderson的
背號退休，而Anderson對Gibson和Trammell影響深遠。
Anderson also won the World Series twice as Cincinnati’s manager. He died
Nov. 4.
Anderson’s No. 11 will be the seventh number retired by the Tigers and the
first since Willie Horton’s No. 23 in 2000.
Anderson在辛辛那提當總教練時還贏得兩次世界大賽。他在去年11月4日
過世。Anderson 的11號將會是第七位被老虎高掛的退役背號，第一位是
在2000年時Willie Horton的23號。
