The Dodgers want a reliable pitcher in exchange for Pierre. With $18.5 million left on his guarantee, a swap of similar contracts would be ideal. But it's doubtful that Los Angeles would view any of Detroit's expensive, oft-injured starters — Jeremy Bonderman, Nate Robertson, Dontrelle Willis — as an attractive option. Detroit would love to trade switch hitter Carlos Guillen for a pitcher, then ship the pitcher to the Dodgers for Pierre. Morosi reports finding a team who wants Guillen, and his hefty contract, will not be easy. Pierre, who could play either center or left field for Detroit -- depending on newcomer Austin Jackson's readiness following spring training. Pierre hit .308 last year for the Dodgers and is familiar to the Tigers organization through his 2003-2005 stint for the Florida Marlins.
