Heyman: Cubs to extend qualifying offer to Dexter Fowler The Chicago Cubs will extend a qualifying offer to outfielder Dexter Fowler on Monday, sources tell FanRag Sports. While Fowler’s love for the Cubs is well documented, the 30-year-old is not expected to accept the offer — he will have a week to make the decision. Many around baseball believe Fowler could receive a four-year deal this time around after signing a one-year, $13 million deal with the Cubs last offseason. Fowler played 125 games in his second season with the Cubs in 2016, hitting .276 with 13 home runs, 48 RBIs and 84 runs scored. He earned a spot on the National League All-Star team, but opted not to play in the game due to a hamstring injury he did not want to reaggravate. He hit .250 with three home runs, six RBIs and 11 runs scored in 72 postseason at-bats, helping the Cubs win their first World Series since 1908. The Georgia native was taken in the 14th round of the 2004 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies. He played for that organization until he was traded to the Houston Astros in Dec. 2013 in exchange for outfielder Brandon Barnes and pitcher Jordan Lyles.
