The Cubs finalized their minor league staff Wednesday via press release. Casual fans likely won't recognize most of the names on the list, but some guys will be familiar for sure. For one, the Cubs hired Bill Buckner to be the hitting coach for Short-A Boise. They also have former players Jason Dubois (Rookie Mesa hitting coach) and Jeff Fassero (Double-A Tennessee pitching coach. Dubois bounced around in the minor leagues, but spent most of his career with the Cubs. He hasn't appeared in the big leagues since 2005 and last played in the minors for Triple-A Iowa in 2010, hitting .300/.385/.632 in 72 games. The Cubs drafted him in the 14th round of the 2000 draft. At just 32, Dubois appears to be giving up on his playing career and is focusing on a future in coaching. Fassero had a long major league career, spanning 16 seasons. He only spend one-and-a-half seasons in Chicago, compiling a 3.42 ERA and 12 saves for the Cubs in 2001. Dave Bialas takes over as the Triple-A Iowa manager after spending the last 10 seasons as the Cubs' minor league field coordinator. He's been with the organization for 18 years and been involved with professional baseball for four decades.
