[笑] Anyway, 我對這對姐妹花先前的作品不是很熟悉 但兩張翻唱專輯真是好聽極了 特別是之中非翻唱的新作品也相當出色 以下是Allison對每首歌的一些notes 1. MOCKINGBIRD Written by Allison Moorer I was talking to my manger about what songs I was thinking of including on the record, and he said, “well, you’ll write something for it, right? I mean, you are a female singer songwriter.” Yes. I am. 2. RING OF FIRE Written by June Carter Cash / Merle Kilgore I’ve always been fascinated by the image of a ring of fire and how it completely nails the feeling of being in the first throes of love and how scary it is and how you just don’t care. I wanted to bring out the beauty of this song. It’s a very sweet sentiment but still explores how dangerous putting your heart on the line is. 3. DANCING BAREFOOT Written by Jay Dee Daugherty, Ivan Kral, Leonard J. Kaye, Richard Sohl and Patti Smith Is there a more influential rock female singer-songwriter than Patti Smith? I don’t think so. She’s just so powerful – I’m in complete awe of her. Trying to do this record without including a song by her would’ve been ridiculous. This one has always been one of my favorites – and it’s a lot of fun to perform. 4. I WANT A LITTLE SUGAR IN MY BOWL Written by Nina Simone Oh, Ms. Simone. She was such a beautiful, courageous woman and artist. It was hard to narrow down the list of her songs to just one. Ultimately I chose this one because it’s a little dirty, and I knew we could do a killer version with the musicians Buddy collected for the record. 5. GO, LEAVE Written by Kate McGarrigle “Go, leave. She’s better than me.” Whoa. What an amazing first line that is. This is one of the most devastatingly beautiful songs I’ve ever heard – I almost fell out of my chair the first time I heard it – without a doubt, I knew I had to record it. 6. REVELATOR Written by Gillian Welch / David Rawlings Gillian’s songs are so good it took me days to weed through them and decide on this one. I’ve always loved this particular song for it’s vibe, and the lyrics are killer. 7. BOTH SIDES NOW Written by Joni Mitchel Where would we female singer-songwriters be without Joni? I can’t even ponder that. She paved the way for girls with guitars and songs. Again, trying to do this record without including her would’ve been just ridiculous. “Both Sides Now” is a perfect song in every way. It’s hard to believe such a young person could write something so worldly. 8. DADDY, GOODBYE BLUES Written by Ma Rainey I wanted to go way back and find something and Buddy turned me on to Ma Rainey. I fell in love with her. I like the cycle of emotions here. One verse it’s frustrated, then it’s sad, then it’s confounded, then it’s lonely, then it just wails. Sounds like life, don’t you think? 9. SHE KNOWS WHERE SHE GOES Written by Shelby Lynne / Bill Botrell This is one of my sister’s songs that she’s never put on a record. I’m not sure why because this one just kills me. It’s so lonely and such a perfect picture of a woman stuck somewhere she neither should nor wants to be, but she can’t move. My favorite women are always a bit mysterious, maybe that’s why I love the one that lives in this song so much. 10. ORPHAN TRAIN Written by Julie Miller Julie Miller’s songs are treasures. She has such a unique musical and lyrical voice – she’s just captivating. I relate to this song for obvious reasons, being an orphan myself, but what I love so much about it is its feeling of hope and reassurance – all of us can walk through this together. It just lifts me up. 11. WHERE IS MY LOVE Written by Chan Marshall (Cat Power) I love Chan Marshall. I think she’s so cool and unique in a sea of sound-alike female “alternative” artists. This song feels like a throwback to me – it’s almost Gershwin-esque and there’s nothing wrong with that. It ’s just gorgeous. 12. I’M LOOKING FOR BLUE EYES Written by Jessi Colter This is the first song I ever learned to sing by myself. My father was a big Jessie Colter fan, so naturally he taught my sister and me songs he liked. It ’s so ingrained in my head that I can’t do the timing like it’s supposed to be – I play it like my father did. It may not be right, but it feels right to me. I’m so glad I finally got to record it – I feel like maybe he’ s resting easier now. --
