for me, this is a physics problem but not a perception problem. the studies from the perception tell us that the overlapped absorption spectrum of L & M cones makes the color vision difficency. Such that, a naive thinking, we can improve the contrast of red and green by eliminating the overlapped spectrum. that's the reason they use a notch filter in this case. the similar concept is used in the imaging processing software, like photoshop , to improve the contrast of color. Since the CMOS sensor recieving R,G,B spectrum separately, instead of filtering out the overlapped spectrum of the image, the software try to improve the color contrast by multiplying different coefficients to R,G,B singal, respectively. --
