Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 (.NET 4.5) and the Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 development system provide developers with many new features and functionality for building modern web applications in the cloud. These include first-class support for standards like HTML 5, CSS 3, and JavaScript, in addition to increased performance and scalability including a new simple asynchronous programming model with the await keyword. See What's New in .NET Framework 4.5 for more details. .NET 4.5 is an in-place upgrade to .NET Framework 4.0, which means existing applications built on .NET 4.0 and running on Windows Azure Web Sites will be upgraded to use .NET 4.5. We have worked very hard to make sure .NET 4.0– based applications work seamlessly with .NET 4.5; however, some changes in the .NET Framework may require changes to your web application code. Upgrading from earlier versions of the .NET Framework to 4.5 is easily achieved once you open your project in Visual Studio 2012.
