The home side had to withstand some early pressure, but then took control of the tie with the midfielder influential again, dictating the tempo as they romped to an emphatic 4-0 victory, setting up a semi-final against Chelsea at Wembley. There will be no trip to Wembley for Armando Broja, though, after Southampton were eliminated 4-1 by Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals. Imagery appeared to show his shot crossing the line before being cleared, but controversially the goal-line technology was not triggered. The midfielder then helped the Royals to a 1-0 victory at home against another side in the promotion race, Blackburn Rovers, taking them five points clear of the relegation zone.
