Since then, he has demonstrated his versatility as a left-back, wing-back, centre-back or central midfielder, impressing both with his attacking intent and defensive solidity. In September 2019, aged 17, the Dutchman made his senior debut for the club in our 7-1 Carabao Cup thumping of Grimsby Town, playing the final 24 minutes as a substitute. A European Championship winner at the Under-19 age group with the Netherlands last year, Maatsen signed a new long-term contract in March and now crosses the capital to the Valley.
