Our former number one has also been back out on the grass at Cobham lately assisting with the goalkeepers and Lampard pinpointed how important his presence was both in the office and on the pitch. Why would you not tap into having the best goalkeeper in the world, which he was for a long time, to pass on that knowledge?' Mendy's arrival adds a further dimension to the competition between the posts, although the Senegalese international is not being considered for inclusion in the squad for today's trip to West Brom due to a lack of training with the group. Lampard acknowledged it was an area of the team that needed improvement but maintained his belief that increased options would only help to drive up standards. 'We know we've had problems in the goalkeeping area in the first two games of the season and at times last year as well,' admitted the boss.
