Following on from the naming of Michael Essien as the BBC's African Player of Year, Drogba convincingly won a vote in his homeland conducted among 20 media organisations, including newspapers, radio and national television. The Chelsea centre-forward collected 194 points, compared with 68 for Lille striker Kader Keita, 66 for Lens striker Aruna Dindane, 48 for Tottenham midfielder Didier Zokora and 46 for Arsenal's centre-back Kolo Toure.
