There was a first taste of life at Chelsea’s training headquarters for Salomon Kalou (top picture on the left) and new goalkeeper Hilario. They were joined by Carlo Cudicini, Damien Duff, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Geremi and Lassana Diarra, none of whom had been involved in the World Cup. A new-look Jose Mourinho, sporting a haircut well-suited to the temperature, led the group through a standard training session. That meant some running but plenty of exercises involving the ball. The numbers taking part were boosted by young players from the reserve and youth squads. The afternoon will see plenty of rest until a second training session in the early evening.
