http://www.chelseafc.com/article.asp?hlid=310292 Ticket boost for children Friday, Sep 23, 2005 Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon today announced that there would be discounts for juvenile and OAP season ticket holders at future Champions League home matches. Chelsea has admitted that two discounted policies that were in place last season were inadvertently dropped during the summer and have acted immediately to rectify the issue. A discounted policy for non-corporate adult season ticket holders who buy all 3 home games in the Champions League is the other policy to be reintroduced. Kenyon writes in tomorrow's programme ahead of the Aston Villa game: "A major issue recently, both at Chelsea, and in football generally, has been ticket prices and the effect this has, or could have, on attendances. A lot has been written about the size of the crowd against Anderlecht, and the debate that followed. From the board's point of view, we want to stress that we recognise the sensitivities over ticket prices and know that our prices are at the higher end of the market. We appreciate the sacrifices you make to follow Chelsea. Last season we reconfigured the ground considerably, taking into account the feelings of our supporters, via the Fans Forum. There was also an open, public and frank debate on ticket pricing with the Forum well in advance of the announced prices. As a result of these discussions there was an increase of concessions by more than 1,000, the away supporters were relocated and a solution was found to the problem of displacing the Matthew Harding Lower for cup matches. The dialogue has continued with our fans and as a result we have identified two further anomalies that we will be rectified immediately as they are wrong. These new policies are: 1) The introduction of a 50 per cent discount on full adult price for juvenile and OAP season ticket holders (not in the Family Section), for Champions League games, 2) the return of the guaranteed discount for non-corporate adult season ticket holders if all 3 Champions League home games are purchased as a block. On these two issues the board has to make a straight-forward apology to our fans. These were overlooked in the recent overhaul of our ticketing policy. Clearly it is incorrect for a juvenile, in say the Matthew Harding Stand, to pay a full adult price for Champions League when he/she has a discounted season ticket. All juvenile/OAP season ticket holders will be contacted in the future and given a 50 per cent refund for the Anderlecht and/or Real Betis games. The Liverpool game will be priced at the new 50 per cent discounted level. This policy will continue next season and we would ask for you to be patient with the administration of these changes. Members wishing to purchase concessions can still do so in the Family Section at a cost of £35 for adults and £15 for children, a significant discount. Tickets for the Anderlecht game were available at this price in this area. Secondly, last season a variable discount was available to non-corporate adult season ticket holders who purchased all 3 European home games. Those 12,500 season ticket holders who purchased for Anderlecht, and also buy for Real Betis and Liverpool, will be contacted and will receive a retrospective discount of £5 per ticket, £15 in total. We are still working out the logistics on the discount but it is likely to come off the cost of the Liverpool ticket which will be on sale soon. This policy principle will also continue next season. I would also like to confirm two other initiatives for this season. We will continue the popular policy of discounted tickets for the FA Cup and Carling Cup. This will hopefully be at £25 and £12, and £20 and £10 respectively, the same prices as last season. Prices are subject to the agreement of our opposition under the rules of these competitions. I discuss our overall approach to disabled policy elsewhere in this programme. However I would like to announce for the Real Betis away game we will pay for the carer of any disabled fan who travels, as Betis are charging for both. At Chelsea the carer goes for free. Generally speaking the board believes the correct environment to debate our overall ticketing policy is the Fans Forum and in sub-meetings around this. We have a Forum coming up before the next home game, and have moved ticketing policy to the top of the agenda. Like last year, the views of your representatives at the Forum, will be taken on board when deciding overall policy.
