A party was held last night, Monday, in the Butcher’s Hook, opposite the main Stamford Bridge entrance, in the venue of The Rising Sun pub where the first Chelsea board meeting took place on March 14th, 1905. Among the guests was Willie Brown, a reserve player from the 1930s who can be found in team shots with legends like Hughie Gallacher. Willie cut the centenary cake. Also there was former chairman Brian Mears, the last member of the Mears family to run Chelsea, who resigned from the board in 1981, and after a year with Lord Chelsea as chairman was ultimately succeeded by Ken Bates in 1982. Stars from the 1950s on filled the bar, many meeting manager Jose Mourinho for the first time.
