Today we got confirmation from reasonably credible sources that the following packages were offered. 1. In the offseason, Paul Pierce was being offered to the Blazers for their 3 pick (to be used on Chris Paul) and an expiring Van Excel deal. (give credit where it is due, Chad Ford and Vescey had this over the summer) 2. In the last few days, Davis was offered for Artest even up. (according to WEEI) Personally, I’m glad that neither deal went through, but I can see the rationale behind both. The first would have given us a top point guard to go with our other emerging talents and cut our expenses greatly. The second would have given us an upgrade basketball-wise. Still, if deal number 1 went down, we’d have missed out on the new and improved Paul, who at worst is improving his trade value and at best is cementing his place in Boston. If deal number 2 went down, we’d waive good bye to the biggest image reclaimation success story I’ve witnessed and we’d be stuck with an image reclaimation project the size of the Big Dig. Could it have worked? Maybe. Could it have backfired badly? Yes. The underlying premis here is that anyone is available on the Celtics.
