--> 把小麥揚到空中，風會把麥糠吹走，留下品質好的麥子。）
群眾向他說：「那麼，我們該作什麼呢?
他答覆他們說：「有兩件內衣的，要分給那沒有的；有食物的，也應照樣做。」
稅吏也來受洗，並問他說：「師傅，我們該作什麼呢?」
他向他們說：「除給你們規定的外，不要多徵收!」
軍人也問說：「我們該作什麼呢?」
他向他們說：「不要勒索人，也不要敲詐；對你們的糧餉應該知足!」
那時，百姓都在期待(默西亞)，為此，人人心中推想：或許若翰就是默西亞。
若翰便向眾人說道：
「我固然以水洗你們，但是比我強的一位要來，就是解衪的鞋帶，我
也不配。衪要以聖神和火洗你們。簸箕已放在衪手中，衪要揚淨自
己的禾場，把麥粒收在倉內；至於糠秕，卻要用不滅的火焚燒。」
他還講了許多別的勸言，給百姓傳報喜訊。

10 When all the people asked him, 'What must we do, then?'
11 he answered, 'Anyone who has two tunics must share with the one who has
none, and anyone with something to eat must do the same.'
12 There were tax collectors, too, who came for baptism, and these said to
him, 'Master, what must we do?'
13 He said to them, 'Exact no more than the appointed rate.'
14 Some soldiers asked him in their turn, 'What about us? What must we do?'
He said to them, 'No intimidation! No extortion! Be content with your pay!'
15 A feeling of expectancy had grown among the people, who were beginning to
wonder whether John might be the Christ,
16 so John declared before them all, 'I baptise you with water, but someone
is coming, who is more powerful than me, and I am not fit to undo the strap
of his sandals; he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
17 His winnowing-fan is in his hand, to clear his threshing-floor and to
gather the wheat into his barn; but the chaff he will burn in a fire that
will never go out.'
18 And he proclaimed the good news to the people with many other
exhortations too.
