And, despite there having already been a sequel to the Best Film Oscar
winner, the newest instalment will be an immediate sequel to the 1991 classic.
But Jodie Foster, who won an Oscar for her role as FBI agent Clarice
Starling, has pulled out. US entertainment magazine Variety suggests
Australian actress Cate Blanchett, 39, is the favourite to take over Foster’
s role.
Although Hannibal became the sequel to The Silence of the Lambs, Universal is
planning the new film to be an immediate follow on from it.
Stuart Galbraith IV, a Hollywood- based film historian and author, said: “I
think Hopkins’ involvement raises the quality of the film considerably and
if Cate Blanchett does replace Foster, it’s not going to ruin the film.
“Blanchett is a very respected actress, and she’s obviously been in the
industry as long as Foster has.
“And in terms of pedigree, Blanchett would probably bring as much to the
film as Foster did.”
