Keyboardist Bob James was named Jazz Artist of the Year by Cashbox in 1980, while bassist Nathan East spent years as a background musician for artists such as Eric Clapton, Phil Collins and BB King. Guitarist Larry Carlton won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance in 1987, while percussionist Harvey Mason has earned seven Grammy nominations, and performed on more than 150 motion picture soundtracks. Fourplay's third gold album, Elixir, released in 1995, was named the year's Best Contemporary Jazz Album by Jazziz magazine.
