Lippi: I can't replace Totti

Italy boss Marcello Lippi has conceded that Francesco Totti
is an irreplaceable figure in his World Cup plans.
The tactician made the comment just hours after the Roma captain
saw his Mondiali hopes jeopardised by ankle surgery.
Totti was seen by many pundits as crucial to his nation's Germany 2006 bid
and the tactician has now underlined that fact.
“Totti is one of the most important players that we have,”
the Coach told Radio Repubblica on Monday.
Lippi說：「Totti是我們最重要的球員之一。」
“It is clear that Totti is one of the few players who doesn't
have a substitute because there is nobody around who plays like him.”
「Totti很明顯是隊上少數我們無法找到替補人選的球員，
因為沒人能像他那樣踢球。」
Although Totti could be sidelined for up to three months,
Lippi is cautiously optimistic that he has time to recover -
even if Italy kick off their campaign against Ghana in just 113 days time.
雖然 Totti需要休養三個月，Lippi仍然保持樂觀－－
儘管義大利隊世界盃首戰 Ghana只剩倒數１１３天。
“I spoke with him this morning,” added the former Juventus tactician.
“He seemed very serene to me.
Lippi補充說：「我今早跟他談過話，我覺得他很平靜。」
“Without being super optimistic, there does seem to be time for him
to get fit. We must now accept what has happened and focus on his recovery.
「雖然不是非常樂觀，不過看來還有時間讓他在傷癒後恢復狀態，
我們必須接受已然發生的事，然後把焦點放在他的治療上。」
“We will look to work as one in an effort to get him back in time.
He is a fundamental player for Italy.”
「我們將會團結一致幫助他即時復原，他是我們義大利隊的根基。」
Totti sustained an ankle fracture and ligament damage following
a clash with Richard Vanigli. But Lippi has defended the Empoli stopper.
Totti被 Empoli後衛 Vanigli踢傷，不過 Lippi也袒護了肇事者。
“We are sad about what has happened but it would be absurd
to accuse anyone,” added the cigar-smoker.
他說：「我們都很難過發生這樣的事，不過為此去責怪誰都有失常理。」
Meanwhile, Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero – who may benefit
in terms of team selection through Totti's possible absence –
has sent a message of support.
另一方面，Totti一旦缺席則有可能獲益的 JUVE隊長 Del Piero，
也傳達出來支持的祝福。
“I wish him all the best,” he said via his official website.
“I saw what happened and am disappointed for him.
I hope he can return soon.”
Del Piero在個人官網上說：「我願他一切安好，我看到事情的發生，
很為他難過，希望他能早日康復。」
