Tommasi marked his return to Serie A, after a lengthy and career-threatening injury absence, with a goal against Fiorentina on Sunday and now the Giallorossi want to reward the well-meaning individual. The midfielder, who badly damaged his knee during a pre-season friendly against Stoke City in 2004, is hugely respected throughout Italy. That after proposing that Roma offer him the minimum footballer's wage of ￡1,070 a month after his contract expired last summer, in return for the chance to prove himself injury-free. The Fiorentina match went a long way to convincing the hierarchy at the capital club that the former Italy international has overcome his terrible knee nightmare and now they want to up his wages to ￡410,000 a season. Tommasi, though, is in no rush to take up the offer just yet as he wants to concentrate on lasting the season out first. "We'll talk about it at the end of the campaign," said the 31-year-old, with typical disregard for his own financial gain.
